Manticore

Recently some friends over at The Black Sun & Garagehammer asked for some help with a lark; "International Manticore Club".
They needed a design and something fun.

I needed to knock the dust off my coloring and try new things. Win win.
Below is the finished WITH lettering.

Here is the manticore w/o lettering

To catch a scoundrel

(and nerf herder)

Finally getting comfortable with Photoshop coloring. Not great, but some I'm looking forward to seeing how the upcoming "SUPER RAPTOR TRUCK THUNDER" goes.

enjoy.

energies and checklist

Ahoy.
It's been a while since I've really turned out some work. New job (with 2+ hour commute) and life taking some energy away.

Now that I've got a handle on the job, I can devote some of that to works!
Now that I've got a plethora of unwanted energy, I can focus that too! (theoretically)
Excelsior!

Before I post a few images here, I wanted to create a checklist of things that I've wanted to do /haven't gotten to in a while. My GOAL is to finish these in a month. Just tackle them head on and see what I got.

  • Finish the "my first....monsters" book. (title later)
  • Laika one-off comic
  • "Epic D&D Party" image
  • "crowns of westeros"
  • more comic stuff.
  • finish whiskey
I call this list/operation: OPERATION "SUPER RAPTOR TRUCK THUNDER"

So, there's my list. I'll post as I get 'er dun'.

Now, here's some new work!

sneak peak at cover of the pitch!

there's a story behind this one.
i swear.

...far far away.

enjoy

Character development pt 3

Rounding the corner on a project and finished the last of the character presentations

As you can see they're for a 'high fantasy' project.

With this last one, I feel like I rounded a corner on coloring. By no means is it professional, but this one feels the most complete to me.

Development characters

Here's some colored versions of three characters in a project that I'm working on.

 (more on it soon)

Had to color in a rush, which is compounding the fact I'm none too amazing with colors. All in all, pretty happy w them.
 See you at SDCC

Oh, look over there! it's TTT

Recently, I've been honing my lackluster coloring skills on TTT.

Our series covering the characters of "A Song of Ice and Fire" has been very fun and helped us change gears within a singular world/ book series.

In case you haven't seen some of the work, I've put some below.

Danny

                                                                          Gregor
Cold Hands
(that's his name. Yes, he does look chilly)

I'm pretty pleased with the first three. Different pallets and (hopefully a different feel for each one. We (TTT) have been doing our sketches loose and quick, within a 1 hr time budget. Then I take mine, ink it and color.

I've discovered some fun new inks/ pens recently.
The Pentel Brush-pen has been fantastic. I actually like the inking better than the color.

Cold hands. In original inks.

 Back to it.

Tag Team Tuesday "Game of Thrones" (Song of Fire and Ice)

Over at Tag Team Tuesday, we're starting our series on George R.R. Martin's "Song of Fire and Ice" aka: Game of Thrones.

Here's the first finished one:  Daenerys Targaryen

More to come!

character development.

Here's two doodles I've been flushing out.

As with the earlier 'character dev.', these are opposites.

On one hand we have a stalwart, loyal character

On the other hand, we have a duplicitous, scheming character

Hopefully, they look enough apart and the intended role.

Chimera colored

Ah. so slowly getting to the backlog of projects.

 here's the Chimera colored.

Not 100% happy w it. But considering the amount of rust I'm knocking off, it's none to shabby.

Were dog; Jetta-canthropy!

Here's some work from "tag team tuesday" that I finished in Photoshop.
Fun lesson, as I'm pretty rusty with PS, and that's being generous.

Not too shabby.
The last and 'final transformation' of Jetta is a bit out of pose, as I wanted something with more "rawr!".

 here's a .gif!

 Rawr!

Armor Development: part 1

For a long term project I'm working on, there are three different 'main factions'.
One of the Moon.
One of the Sun
One of the Stars.

I want them each to have a different feel for their armor and regalia.
Here is the Ideas and starting of the faction of the "stars" (not their actual name)

I wanted them to have an almost eastern influence; Mongolian or something of a Byzantium feel.
The one below, is the one I'm the most happy with so far.

Just doodles to show process

One off comic: Lines only

Since I'm about done with the quick "one off comic", I decided to post a few 'lines only' images of the pages.

There's no:
  • inking (blacks) ok...some have it
  • color
  • dialogue.

so here it is, so you can see the 'before' and the after (coming soon)

Enjoy

"one off" comic. WIP

I

Having pulled myself away from the drafting board, I wanted to do something light and fun.
I'm working on a long form comic/ graphic novel (sequential art, if you want to get Suuuuuper fancy) and while fun, it takes a while.

So to alleviate the stress, I've done a 9 page "one off"comic.
I sketched out pages in a book. I inked it using trace, so I don't have to clean up lines. Now, on to the coloring

Here's a quick sample.

No color or text yet, just some semi-refined doodles.

Enjoy. I'll post the finished work soon

Chimera development.

I'm working on a short 'one off' comic right now, and the story is based around a mythical monster. One that kiiiiinda gets the shaft when it comes to the headlines.

The Chimera!

When you think about it, it's a damn fun monster. Three heads, belching fire and flying around wreaking havoc.

I wanted to give it a lioness feel to most of it's body and still capture some malice.

Thoughts?

I'll post a link to the 'one off' ASAP! (still working on it!)
